Over the years I have read hundreds of books on personal development, business skills and psychology — it's as though I knew that one day I would be a life coach and would need to draw on the work of these great writers!

Listed below are my personal favourites — those that have really inspired, influenced and helped me. I hope that you will find them equally valuable. I've put the books into categories, to help you navigate the list faster, and you'll see that some fall into two categories.

All of my recommended books listed below are linked to Amazon.co.uk, where you can get hold of them at a significant discount, and have them delivered directly to your home in just a few days.

  • "Clean Language" by Wendy Sullivan and Judy Rees — ISBN 978-184590125-7
  • "Metaphors in Mind" by James Lawley and Penny Tompkins — ISBN 0-9538751-0-5
This book covers the theory of metaphor, the use of Clean Language and transformation through symbolic modelling. It provides a method whereby individuals can become aware of the metaphorical nature of their communications, and a process that honours their metaphors as an accurate description of their world, and then allows them to develop them through the use of clean questions. I have found this to be a powerful new way of thinking about, and facilitating, the process of change - useful in both my coaching practice and for gaining personal insights.

Stress Management

  • "Don't sweat the small stuff" by Richard Carlson — ISBN 0-340-70801-8V
This book provides simple strategies for living a more fulfilled and peaceful life, by explaining how we can stop letting the little things in life drive us crazy. It’s written as 100 short essays, so it's easy to dip into. My favourite piece of advice is the suggestion that we ask ourselves ‘will this still matter in a year’s time?’ when something irritating happens – because the answer is nearly always no, so it puts such ‘small stuff’ into perspective.

Law of Attraction

  • "The Law of Attraction" by Michael J Losier — ISBN 0-9732240-1-0
The subtitle of this book is "The Science of Attracting more of what you want and less of what you don't want" — which sums it up nicely! The theory is that you get more of what you pay attention to - so beware of the things you keep complaining about, and your negative self talk! Michael Losier provides an easy three step formula for identifying what you want and then attracting it. There are some interesting chapters on how to use language in a different, more poweful way, some worksheets to help you apply the process and case studies to illustrate clearly how the Law of Attraction works. I enjoyed Michael's clear writing style and can highly recommend this book.

The course is a 2,290 miles road race, and Armstrong won in 1999 in the fastest time ever.
